TCL TV Apps Disappeared

Smart TVs from TCL include apps that help improve the viewing experience by giving you access to more content through your TV. Still, there are often bugs and glitches—like the apps disappearing all at once.

TCL TV apps disappear when the firmware isn’t updated, the internet connection is weak, or there is a bug in the system. You can usually restore your apps by restarting the TV and/or the internet, checking the internet connection, updating firmware, speeding up the system, or optimizing it.

In this article, I’ll go over all the possible reasons for apps disappearing from your TCL TV. I will also explore easy ways to fix this problem, so keep reading!

Why Your TCL TV Apps Disappeared

The issue of apps disappearing can be frustrating, but it isn’t unique to TCL TVs. Whether your entire app list disappeared or just a few are missing, the reasons remain the same. Here are a few causes for apps disappearing from TCL TV.

The Firmware Isn’t Updated

Every appliance or device we use nowadays is a computer in one way or another. Smart TVs are actually a computer and run an operating system that requires updates constantly. If you tend to ignore firmware updates, apps won’t update to the latest version, and there’s a chance they might not work anymore.

Poor Connection Speed

Whether it’s from your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or a bad router, a weak internet connection can cause a slew of problems in your computer. Updates might stall, and apps might not be capable of loading at such slow speeds.

A slow internet connection will also affect the way apps function. So, even if they don’t disappear, you’ll find that they aren’t working properly.

System Glitch or Bug

Developers are constantly updating and fixing minor issues that arise in apps and firmware. They also make changes to improve user experience. There is always a possibility of a glitch or bug forming when these changes are made.

There are occasional reports of widespread glitches that cause apps to disappear, but developers usually remedy the situation fast enough.

You should also take a close look at where you are downloading apps from. Any apps that are not downloaded from official sources are prone to have added malware or even viruses.

Unauthorized apps can potentially cause a bug in your TV apps that aren’t in other TCL TVs. Unfortunately, that means updates won’t automatically fix the problem.

Fixes To Get Your TV Apps Back

As disappearing TV apps is a very common problem that many users have reported, there are already more than a few fixes you can try. Here’s what you need to do in order to get your TV apps back:

1. Restart Your TV

Turning your TV off and on again is very much like power cycling for your apps. Because the apps will be rebooted from the startup configuration, there is room to remove any bugs or glitches.

Make sure that you’re actually turning off the TV and not just putting it in “Standby Mode.” This means pressing the power button for a few seconds until the TV turns off or shows a prompt asking whether to shut down the TV.

2. Restart and Check Your Internet Connection

More often than you’d think, your poor internet connection is caused by a badly set up router. Try restarting the router and testing your connection speed. You can find many websites online that provide this service for free.

If you find that the internet is always slow or crashes constantly, it may be time to upgrade your internet plan or even switch providers. You may also find it helpful to upgrade your router or change its parameters at the very least.

When checking your connection speed, pay close attention to the “ping.” This is a measurement used to describe how long your connection takes to respond to connection prompts. In other words, you are looking for a shorter ping because it means your apps will connect faster

3. Update the Firmware

Update TV firmware

To keep your TCL TV (or any other smart device) in optimal condition, you will need its firmware always updated. This allows you to get the latest fixes and changes that developers have made—changes that would likely fix any glitch or bug you are experiencing.

Not only should you update the firmware of your smart TV, but I would also suggest enabling auto-update for the system and apps as well. This takes the stress of updating out of your hands and allows everything to run smoothly on its own.

4. Turn on System Speed Up

The system speed-up is a feature found in TCL TVs that allows apps to load faster. The system saves the last configurations of the app and doesn’t entirely close any apps so that you can access the apps almost instantly.

However, this feature is not always turned on. You may benefit from turning on this app to help you return your disappeared apps. The system speed-up button is located in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen and should help restore any missing apps.

5. Optimize the System

Lastly, you should optimize the system by avoiding too many downloads. After all, your smart TV doesn’t usually have a lot of RAM space or even storage space.

Overloading the TV with apps and turning them on at once isn’t recommended. In fact, this is a quick way to get your smart TV stuck in error, which might be much more difficult to fix than disappearing apps.

Ensure that all your apps are installed from the official play store to ensure that there aren’t any issues with optimizing the apps and that you don’t have any viruses installed.

Final Thoughts

If your TCL TV apps have disappeared, there’s no reason to panic. It’s usually a minor issue that can be fixed fairly easily without the need to hire a professional. The best thing you can do to ensure this never happens is to keep everything updated and upgrade to a more reliable internet connection.
