Sony TV’s apps disappearing could be a temporary glitch. It can happen when your TV is offline, so you must check your internet connection. Apps can also disappear due to several other reasons, such as corrupt app files or outdated smart TV firmware. These problems have easy fixes.

When apps disappear from your Sony TV, you can do several things to bring them back. This article explains some common reasons for this occurrence and their solutions.

Reasons Why Sony TV Apps Disappear

Smart Sony TV has many default apps and even lets you download a few. However, some users face the issue of apps disappearing from the screen. Fortunately, when this happens, it doesn’t always mean your apps are gone for good.

Let’s see several reasons why your apps disappear from your Sony Tv.

No Internet Connection

You must always check your internet connection when you can longer see app icons on your screen. The apps’ disappearance could be a temporary glitch because of no internet.

There can be several reasons why your TV doesn’t have internet:

  • Your Wi-Fi router is off.
  • Your Sony TV’s Wi-Fi is off.
  • You changed your Wi-Fi password, disconnecting your devices from the internet.
  • Your Wi-Fi isn’t getting enough signals.
  • The Wi-Fi server is down.
  • Internet cables are not connected correctly.

Older Version of the Firmware

Your Sony TV’s outdated firmware could be why you can’t see any apps on your Sony TV’s Home screen. It is also possible that the apps you fail to see may require an update. In both these cases, you may view the icons, but you may not be able to load the apps.

When you don’t update your apps or the firmware, they can stop working, or the icons may disappear. Even though a disappearance is rare, it can happen.

Firmware Glitch

Smart TV’s firmware keeps them running. However, sometimes a virus or power issue can corrupt the software. When the firmware malfunctions, it can make the apps disappear. At times, you may view the icon, but it won’t open the app, no matter how much you click on it.

In this case, restarting your TV isn’t enough. You will need to do a bit more.

Corrupted Apps

Some apps can disappear without a trace. This is rare, but it happens. One of the reasons could be an app error or corrupt app files. When this happens, your app can crash, fail to load, or disappear altogether. This usually occurs when:

  • The developer doesn’t update the files.
  • There is an error in the code.
  • The app isn’t compatible with your Sony TV.
  • The app needs an upgrade.

Easy Fixes To Bring Back Sony TV Apps

Apps disappearing from your Sony TV’s home screen isn’t too problematic unless there is data corruption. Below, I will offer you quick solutions for the problems mentioned above.

1. Fix the Internet Connection

Before doing anything else, check your internet connection and fix it if it is off. Sometimes fixing the internet connection will bring all your apps back.

Here’s how to fix your internet connection. First;

Gizmo Geek Guide uploaded this as an original article on November 4, 2022.

  • You must see the router and make sure it’s on, then check all the cables and wire connections.
  • You also need to check your Sony TV’s Wi-Fi settings and turn them on if they are off.

You can then change the TV’s Wi-Fi settings by following these steps:

  1. Click the Home button on your Sony TV’s remote.
  2. Select Settings from the menu.
  3. The next step depends on your model. Here are the options you may see: Select preferences/Network Setup/Network.
  4. Choose Network/Setup Network Connection/Network Setup.
  5. Choose AutoCustom – not all models will have this step.
  6. Choose Wireless. You may also see the options Wireless Setup or Wireless LAN.
  7. Select your network from the list.
  8. Enter your password, and you are ready to go.

You also need to confirm whether you receive enough signals when you connect to the wireless router. To avoid signal interference, turn off your Bluetooth and other wireless devices

If your server is down, contact your wireless service provider.

2. Update Sony TV’s Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause many performance issues and glitches, including app disappearance. Sony TV automatically updates its software whenever an upgrade is available. You may also get a message asking you to install an update.

Still, you can check if the firmware is up to date and manually install the upgrade.

3. Restart Your Sony TV

Apps may disappear due to a glitch in your smart TV, and you shouldn’t worry too much when this happens. Try restarting your TV and, for good measure, your Wi-Fi router too.

Here is how to power restart your TV:

Method 1

  1. Press and hold your remote’s power button for about 5 seconds.
  2. The TV may give you a message saying it’s restarting.
  3. The TV will restart automatically.

Method 2

  1. Click and hold the remote’s power button for about two seconds.
  2. Select Restart when you get the option.
  3. Your TV will restart.

Method 3

  1. Turn your TV off using its power button.
  2. Take the TV’s power cable out of its socket.
  3. Leave it for a few seconds.
  4. Plug your Sony TV’s power cable back into the socket.
  5. Push the TV’s power button to turn the TV on.

4. Reinstall the Apps

You may have to put in a little more effort to deal with corrupted apps. You will have to reinstall all the apps if you are sure they disappeared due to corrupted files. The reason for this is simple, corrupt apps won’t work, and if they disappear, they won’t come back.

Nevertheless, you should investigate the real reason before you declare corrupt files to be the reason for the apps’ disappearance.

Final Thoughts

Apps disappearing from your Sony TV isn’t a worrisome problem. Mostly, it happens when your Wi-Fi is off. The apps come back as soon as you go online; if they don’t, you can resolve this by restarting your TV.

Additionally, you must ensure to keep the TV’s firmware and apps up to date. Outdated devices and apps can cause compatibility issues.
