Roku TV No Sound

Roku TV is fantastic when it operates properly because you can watch all your favorite shows and movies at your leisure. However, Roku sometimes suffers from glitches and one of these can be no audio. What causes this?

Roku TV No Sound

Your Roku TV has no sound because the volume is set too low or has been muted. It could also be due to outdated TV software, or a wrong mode. Another possible reason is that your Roku TV needs to be reset. In rare cases, it could be because of a faulty part.

In this article, I’ll take you through the most common reasons your Roku TV might not be outputting audio. I’ll also provide some easy fixes to try. Let’s dive in!

Why Your Roku TV Has No Sound

Does your Roku TV have no sound? This is a common issue and can also happen with TV streaming sticks

Let’s take a look at the most common causes:

The Volume Is Set Too Low or Is Muted

Checking if your TV’s volume is set too soft or has been muted should be the first thing you check. The volume can easily end up on zero if you’ve accidentally sat on the remote or someone has turned the TV down when you weren’t around.

Your Roku TV Is In the Wrong Mode

There are various audio modes on a Roku TV that can cause the sound to become muted. For instance, you may have accidentally activated your TV’s private listening mode, which allows you to use headphones, and not disturb those around you. In this case, the TV will only play audio when headphones are plugged in.

Your Roku TV Needs To Be Reset

Resetting or power cycling your Roku TV is often enough to fix minor glitches, such as no audio output. It only takes a couple of minutes, and can have your TV working like new again.

If power cycling doesn’t resolve the problem, you may need to perform a factory reset, which is a slightly longer process.

Your Roku TV Needs a Software Update

When a software update is available, Roku TVs normally update themselves automatically.

You’ll know when an update has occured because the entire system will reset itself.

In rare cases, the software update doesn’t take place, in which case you will need to perform a manual update.

If the system hasn’t been updated for a while, you could start experiencing bugs, one of which could be a loss of sound.

Your Roku TV Has a Faulty Part

After a while, a TV’s hardware can wear out. These can be easily replaceable items such as the HDMI cable, or the whole TV may have experienced an unrepairable issue.

Roku TVs have a one-year warranty, so if you have gone beyond this date, you may find you have to replace the item in question.

5 Easy Fixes for a Roku TV with No Sound

Roku TV Fix No Sound

Here are some easy fixes to consider when your Roku TV has no sound:

1. Check the Volume Settings

Checking your TV’s volume settings is easy. Using your remote control, try turning up the volume to see if it fixes the problem.

If turning the volume up doesn’t work, check if the TV has been placed on mute. You can do this by pressing the mute button on the remote.

2. Adjust Your Roku TV’s Mode

Your TV remote will either have a star button that gives you access to the system’s audio settings, or a volume mode control button. You can also access the volume settings by pressing the home button and selecting the audio setting.

While you are there, check that you haven’t activated private listening mode. If you have, simply deselect it and try using your Roku TV again.

3. Reset Your Roku TV

Performing a reset is simple and quick. Simply turn your TV off, and remove the power cable from the socket. Wait a few minutes and turn it on again.

You could also try another method, which involves heading to your settings menu and selecting “system.” From there, you can select “power” and then “system Restart.”

If a soft reset or power cycle doesn’t get your sound working again, you may need to try a factory reset. This will revert the TV to its original settings from when you purchased it.

Here’s how to perform a factory reset on a Roku TV:

  1. Using your remote control, navigate to the settings section.
  2. Select “system” , and then head to “advanced system settings”.
  3. Select “factory reset”, and follow the instructions on the screen.

4. Upgrade Your Roku TV’s Firmware

If the solutions above have not worked, the cause of the problem could be due to outdated TV software. In this case, you’ll need to check if there is a software update available and, if so, install it.

You can do this by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to the settings menu on your TV.
  2. Select System and then System Update.
  3. Choose the option to Check Now, and see if there is a firmware update available.
  4. If there is, follow the prompts to install it (it should only take a few minutes).
  5. Your TV will automatically turn off.

Switch your TV on again and check the sound.

5. Check the HDMI Cables

If none of the solutions above have worked, it’s time to check your TV’s cables. Take a good look at the power cable, HDMI cable, and WiFi connection:

  • If you experience sound issues when moving or wiggling the connecting cables, then it’s likely that the cable is worn and must be replaced.
  • If you find a problem with your WiFi connection, troubleshoot your WiFi router or contact your network service provider for help.
  • If you find the TV or device at fault, you can contact the manufacturer for help or even a local repair shop.

If your Roku TV has experienced a permanent loss of audio and is out of warranty after following all these steps, your best bet might be to replace it.
