Prime Video Not Working on Hisense TV

Every app stops working now and again, and Prime is no exception. Most apps go down for the same reasons. Let’s examine why Prime may not be working on your Hisense TV.

Prime usually stops working for one of the following reasons: the app is outdated, the TV needs an update, or the app is down. Usually, you can fix it by deleting and reinstalling the app, power cycling the TV, logging out and back in, and clearing the cache.

Let’s discuss these in a bit more depth, and then we’ll get into how you can fix this problem.

Why Prime Isn’t Working

Hisense TV Why Prime Not Working

I know how frustrating it can be when Prime stops working. It seems like it’s always the video streaming apps that shut down. The good news is it’s not that hard of a fix. Normally apps like Prime will stop working for a while, but the problem will resolve itself within a few hours. If it doesn’t, it’s pretty simple to repair it.

Usually, when Prime stops working, it’s due to a problem with the app, but it can also be due to a problem with the TV.

Typically an app needs to be updated at least every few months. Video streaming apps are sometimes more prone to bugs and viruses than other apps and can require updates more frequently.

Apps also occasionally go down due to technical issues. This isn’t anything that you’ve done. Rather it’s a problem with the app developers.

If it’s not an issue with the app, it’s guaranteed to be a problem with the TV. Your Hisense TV needs to have regular updates, just like your apps do.

Let’s look at each of these issues in a little more detail.

Prime Needs To Be Updated

You’ll probably know if Prime needs an update before it stops working. Normally, when apps need to be updated, they’ll become sluggish and frequently freeze before refusing to load.

If you notice that Prime is freezing here and there, go into your settings and look at when the last time you updated your app was. Unlike phones, which frequently update the apps on their own, TVs often require you to manually update your apps.

We’ll talk about how you can go in and do this in a moment.

The Prime App Is Down

If the app is down, it’s due to a developer problem, not your problem. If you’ve already gone through and updated Prime and it’s not working, the app will likely go down.

Now and again, apps will become infected with a bug, and while these bugs usually cause simple playback delays, sometimes they can cause a lot worse issues. Occasionally they can entirely shut down the app.

If Prime is down because of a bug, there’s not much you can do but wait out the problem. Before resigning yourself to this, however, check out some of the solutions I discuss below.

The TV Needs To Be Updated

Hisense TVs need to be updated regularly. Over time, the TV’s cache becomes full, and the firmware needs an update. This is normal.

If your TV is the problem, you’ll notice that the issues extend past problems with Prime. Instead, your entire TV will start running slower. You should see that multiple apps are having trouble loading or running slower.

We’ll discuss how to update your Hisense TV in just a moment.

Now that we’ve discussed the problems, let’s look at some solutions. If you need to fix an app that’s not working, be it Prime or another app, you’ll need to look at doing a few different things.

You’ll first want to try logging out and then back into your account. Occasionally, things just freeze on the account and need a hard reset.

You may also need to uninstall and reinstall the app. This is often a solution for apps that are lagging. We’ll discuss why in a moment.

If you’ve tried both of these things, you’ll want to move into solutions concerning your TV. You’d want to try three things in this case – updating the TV, clearing the cache, and power-cycling the TV.

So, let’s look at each of these solutions in a bit more depth.

1. Try Logging Out and Then Logging Back In

This is a simple solution, but usually, it will help when you’re experiencing an issue with Prime. It’s a pretty straight forward process.

If this doesn’t fix the issue, move on to the next solution.

2. Uninstall Prime and Reinstall It

When in doubt, uninstall your apps. That’s how the saying goes, right? Joking, but this process usually fixes any problems with Prime.

When you install the app, it deletes all the data, which means the cache gets cleared. The cache just holds all the information about Prime, such as watch history and login credentials. It does a hard reset on the app to uninstall it.

Another thing that happens is that when you reinstall it, it reinstalls the updated version of the app. This means that any bugs will have been worked out in the new app, and it will likely work significantly better.

Now, you could go a long way around and do this through your settings, clearing the cache and then updating the app, but it’s much easier to uninstall and reinstall it afterward.

3. Update and Clear Your Hisense TV

As I mentioned, your TV needing an update can cause major app issues. If you notice that the TV is running sluggishly, then it’s time for an update.

Once you update the TV, you’ll want to make sure you also go in and clear the cache. Sometimes an update will do it automatically, but it’s always best to go back in and check. Here’s how to clear the cache on your Hisense TV.

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Choose Network on the setup options.
  3. Choose Clear Internet Memory

This will clear out all internet memory and should have your TV running back at max capacity before you know it.

4. Power-Cycle the TV

Power cycling is basically just unplugging your TV for about thirty seconds. This allows the TV to do a hard reset with a reset back to factory defaults

Most of the time, if nothing else is working, this is your best option. To power cycle, simply unplug the TV and leave it unplugged for thirty to sixty seconds. Afterward, you should be able to load it back up and have everything running smoothly.

Final Thoughts

If Prime isn’t working on your Hisense TV, it’s usually because the app needs to be updated or the TV needs to be updated. If it’s happened over time, the app has probably developed a bug. If it’s sudden, it may be because Prime has just gone down temporarily.

Usually, power cycling the TV will fix any major TV issues, and uninstalling Prime and reinstalling it will help with any app issues.
