Paramount Plus Not Working on Roku TV

Paramount Plus is a streaming app that has been steadily gaining popularity. It’s available on nearly every streaming device, including Roku TVs. Sometimes Paramount Plus stops working, however, so let’s talk about why this can happen.

Roku TV Paramount Plus Not Working

Paramount Plus stops working on a Roku TV because of ad blockers on your TV, a weak internet connection, or the Roku TV needing a software update. You can fix these issues by moving your internet connection, updating your Roky TV, and disabling third-party ad blockers.

While these issues might be annoying annoyances, they all have relatively easy fixes. Today we’ll look at each of these in-depth and discuss possible solutions.

Why Paramount Plus Isn’t Working on Your Roku TV

Roku TV Why Paramount Plus Not Working

Paramount Plus, like any app, will occasionally go down. When this happens, it’s most often either due to an internet connectivity problem or the TV needing an update.

Less often, it can be due to ad blockers on your device, which can prevent certain apps from working, particularly if they have ads.

Let’s talk about each one of these.

The Internet Signal Is Weak or Disconnected

Finding the perfect place to put both your Roku TV and your internet router can be tricky. If it’s too far away, you risk having a weak connection.

When the internet router is too far away, it’s common for the Roku TV to become disconnected or buffer in and out on streaming apps such as Paramount Plus.

Usually, you’ll be able to tell whether or not the Roku TV is connected by looking in the top right-hand corner while your Roku TV is on the home screen. Normally, you’ll see something like “Not Connected” in the corner when it isn’t connected.

When the internet signal weakens, you may notice that video streaming apps such as Paramount Plus are frequently buffering. Sometimes it will stop loading completely. This is a sure sign that your internet signal is the problem.

Let’s go into the next issue.

The Roku TV Needs To Be Updated

Roku TV Needs Update

Smart TVs always need to be updated frequently, and Roku TVs are no exception. They require regular software updates to continue working well. Usually, you’ll need to update the TV at least once every few months.

Gizmo Geek Guide posted this on February 10, 2023 as the original owner of this article.

Roku TVs will typically update on their own when the TV is turned off or on, but when this doesn’t happen, you’ll need to manually go in and check for updates. You can do this easily through your Roku TV settings.

When the TV hasn’t been updated for a while, you may notice that apps don’t work as well as they once did. They may frequently pause, and video streaming may not be available.

You may also find that Paramount Plus or other video streaming apps won’t open. At first, this seems unrelated, but more often than you would imagine, the issues go back to a simple software update.

Ad Blockers Are Turned On

In today’s world, there are ads everywhere. You can’t seem to get away from them, so it’s no wonder that ad blockers have risen in popularity to the point where they are everywhere. Whether it’s a browser, phone, or TV, there’s almost always an option to block the barrage of ads coming through.

The problem is that many of these companies and streaming services, such as Paramount Plus, thrive on the ads they play. While they usually offer a plan that blocks all the ads, using any third-party ad blockers is strictly prohibited.

If you have an ad blocker enabled on your Roku TV and you don’t have a no-ad plan with Paramount Plus, then the app is probably not going to work. You may be able to open the app, but once you try to start streaming, Paramount Plus will promptly inform you that the video can’t be played right now.

It’s a bit of a lose-lose situation, but with enough creativity, there’s always a way around it.

How To Fix Paramount Plus Not Working on Your TV

Roku TV Fix Paramount Plus Not Working

We’ve gone over the common reasons why Paramount Plus isn’t working on your Roku TV. Now it’s time to dive into some solutions.

Most of these solutions are easy to implement, so don’t worry. We aren’t getting into major technicalities or anything!

1. Move Your Internet Router Closer to the TV

This is kind of the cure-all solution for internet problems. If the internet signal isn’t reaching the TV, this is guaranteed to correct the problem. Of course, it can be quite a challenge to find the right setup, especially if you have cable in addition to streaming services.

Trying to find a location where the TV fits, the wired connections can run, and the internet signal is strong can feel like running around in circles. That said, you don’t necessarily have to rearrange your entire house to fix this problem.

One of the other options available is to install a WiFi extender. These aren’t super expensive, and they plug right into the wall. This will help the signal reach your TV. The only problem is that the signal doesn’t always come through as strongly on the extender. However, it should certainly be better than what you had before.

2. Update Your Roku TV

In my opinion, updating is always the answer. It’s quick and easy, and it fixes nearly any issue you could be having with your Roku TV.

If you find that streaming apps like Paramount Plus aren’t working, the first thing you should do is check the internet connection. The second thing you should do is always perform an update on your TV. You should also update the specific apps that aren’t working, which can be done by going into the app settings or by uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

Check out the article on how to check for updates by Roku support for more information about the updating process. If the TV isn’t connected, you can even update via USB.

3. Disable Third Party Ad Blockers

I know it’s an unfortunate part of life, but streaming apps don’t typically work while ad blockers are enabled. While turning them off just to turn them on again later may be frustrating, it’s one of the quickest ways to get Paramount Plus up and running again.

Each ad blocker works differently, but there should always be an option to disable it for a certain time.

At this time, there are no workarounds to allow streaming apps like Paramount Plus to continue working with a third-party ad blocker enabled. But don’t worry—I’m sure someone is working on that!

Final Thoughts

When Paramount Plus stops working on your Roku TV, it’s usually because of internet connectivity issues, an ad blocker is enabled, or the Roku TV needs to be updated.

These can easily be fixed by rearranging or purchasing an extender, updating your Roku TV, and disabling any ad blockers.
