Hisense TV Horizontal Lines on Screen

Lines on a TV are never fun since they interrupt the picture and make it nearly impossible to enjoy a show or movie. Hisense is a popular budget TV brand known for punching far above its weight. Unfortunately, like many other brands, their TVs also develop horizontal lines on their screens.

Horizontal lines across the screen usually indicate a problem with the LCD panel, which is responsible for displaying images. This problem can also sometimes be caused by the timing control board or a faulty connection.

Today, we’ll discuss common reasons why your Hisense TV is showing horizontal lines and a few possible solutions.

Why Your Hisense TV Is Showing Horizontal Lines

If you notice that horizontal lines have recently appeared on your TV, it can be a real disappointment. Unlike vertical lines, which usually don’t indicate a serious issue, horizontal lines are significantly more challenging to solve.

Often, a TV with horizontal lines across it will need to be replaced. I do have some solutions for you to try, though, so keep reading.

Generally, if your TV is showing horizontal lines, it’s due to an issue with the internal components of the TV — usually the LCD panel or the timing control board. We’ll get into what each of these is and what they do in a moment, but for now, just recognize the following.

The LCD panel is what displays images on the screen. The timing control board controls everything else display-wise.

When an internal issue doesn’t cause horizontal lines, it’s usually because of a bad connection. The connection can be due to an external device that you have hooked up or interference from a different electric device nearby. It can even be due to damage from a magnet.

Let’s discuss each of these problems in a little more depth, and then we’ll discuss possible solutions.

The LCD Panel Is Failing

You’ll know your LCD panel is failing when lines of all sorts start showing up on your screen. The imaging will be cut, and most of the time, the lines will lean from the vertical, forming diagonal and near horizontal lines on the screen. There may also be the odd vertical line here and there.

The LCD panel takes care of the images on your screen. The TV houses a variety of cables and lights, with most of the cables within the TV being related to the LCD panel.

Over time, the cables can come loose, and the lights can burn out. This can make for a terrible picture pretty quickly.

Often the elements in the LCD panel go out suddenly, so if your TV didn’t have lines one day and suddenly does, this might be the cause.

However, you should note that usually, these elements won’t break without some other damage occurring, such as the TV being dropped or hit. So, if you recently moved or dropped your TV before the lines showed up, your LCD panel or wiring could be damaged.

The Timing Control Board Is Faulty

The timing control board, called the T-Con board, plays a massive role in the display on the TV. The timing control board is the smallest board within a TV and is packed with intricacies.

When a timing control board begins to fail, which can happen for various reasons, you usually need professional help. T-Con boards are one of the more complicated parts of a TV.

If the timing control board is having problems, the TV usually begins to display horizontal or vertical lines. The picture may also display partially or not at all.

It can also cause the TV to go completely black.

The TV Is Experiencing Interference From Other Devices

Interference is expected when you have other devices hooked up to the TV. When you have so many devices and cables in close proximity, electric signals can cross, and this can cause the TV to show lines across the screen. Usually, these lines appear as horizontal lines.

Quite a few things can cause interference, but often, it’s because the TV is placed too close to other electronic items. You should also be careful if you have strong magnets in your house because these can completely ruin a TV.

How To Fix a Hisense TV Showing Horizontal Lines

Now let’s discuss some solutions for the horizontal lines of your TV. Remember, if you’re not particularly skilled with electrical work, it’s usually a better idea to leave it to a professional.

1. Use Tape To Help Fix LCD Issues

This might come as a surprise, but a simple strip of scotch tape can work wonders for an LCD panel problem.

LCD problems are usually caused by a problem with the ribbon cables or the lights. While this won’t fix problems with the lights, it will usually fix problems with the cables. However, you do have to feel comfortable taking your TV apart.

  1. Open up the back of the TV. Be sure to allow the TV an hour after unplugging to drain the power.
  2. Look for the ribbon cable, which is the cable that has quite a few other wires grouped. The tape will go across the entire ribbon cable. This helps bind the loose cables together and generally eliminates the lines, at least temporarily.

2. Replace the Timing Control Board

In this case, you’ll have to take your TV to a professional. Timing control boards are typically a little more pricey, and unless your TV is brand new, it might be better to replace your TV if the T-Con board fails.

3. Reset the TV

Now and again, every TV has issues and needs to be reset. Resetting your TV can fix software and interference problems, so it’s a great option if you’ve run into issues. Note, however, that any changes you’ve made to your TV display settings will usually need to be redone after the reset

  1. To reset the TV, reset the pinhole on your TV’s back.
  2. Using a toothpick or other slim tool, insert it into the pinhole and hold for about twenty seconds.
  3. Afterward, you can start the TV back up.

Final Thoughts

Hisense TVs usually develop horizontal lines because of a problem with the internal components of the TV, such as the timing control board or the LCD panel. It can also happen because of electrical interference.

If you see lines on the TV, you may need to replace the timing control board or the entire TV. Usually, a reset will do the job for any interference issues.
